Nothing, ex-OnePlus CEO Carl Pei’s new UK-based venture, has just released its first-ever product a pair of earbuds.

Nothing’s board includes several famous faces from the arena of tech inclusive Kunal Shah of Cred, YouTuber Casey Neistat, Google Ventures, Tony Fadell, Kevin Lin, Steve Huffman and Josh Buckley.

The nothing ear (1) comes with a completely unique transparent layout that is something to beat Apple, Samsung and OnePlus.

In terms of pricing, the Ear (1) has been priced cost-effective at INR 5,999 and will be sold online in India, exclusively through Flipkart, starting 17th August. Flipkart meanwhile has already confirmed that the Nothing ear (1) wireless earbuds will go live for preorders and sale on the shopping website with No Cost EMI and fast shipping options to be had from the outset.

The company keeps things simple with its debut product. Listeners get active noise-canceling (ANC), a case with USB-C and wireless charging compatibility, and automatic ear detection. The earbuds also feature an IPX4 water-resistant rating, because of this they can be used for exercising too.

Do they sound good?

Ear 1 earphone houses an 11.6mm dynamic driver, which is quite large for a set of true wireless earphones.

Mobile app

The controls and noise cancellation intensity settings can be toggled and customized via the Ear 1 app, a good way to be had for iOS and Android. With the Ear (1) app, you could personalize the earbud touch controls, use a “find my earbuds” feature, cycle through three listening modes (ANC on, ANC off, transparency), receive firmware updates, they feature Bluetooth 5.2 and more.

Charging case

For charging, the Nothing Ear 1 case relies on USB Type-C and Qi wireless charging, with the earpieces latching on magnetically to draw power from the battery in the case. Battery life is claimed to be up to 5.7 hours per charge on the earpieces, and up to 34 hours in total with the case that is five additional charges from the case. Fast charging through USB Type-C is supported with a 10-minute charge claimed to deliver up to 8 hours of listening time.
